چکیده
Abstract Oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB), waste produced from the oil mills, has not been intensely utilized while its abundant availability in tropical countries such as Indonesia. It is one of potential lignocellulosic material sources which can be to produce sugar. The subcritical water process known a promising lignocellulose-to-sugar conversion process. This study examined effects temperature, surfactant types, and concentrations on sugar yield OPEFB through In this research, was conducted at varied temperature 140-180 °C, constant pressure time 60 bar, minutes, respectively. types surfactants studied were non-ionic, anionic, cationic (Tween 80, SDS, CTAB). Reducing concentration analyses solid characterizations using SEM, XRD, FTIR, TGA carried out research evaluate impact variables. experiments showed that Tween 80 addition significant yields 140 °C. CTAB shows adverse effects, SDS support production yields. may caused by hydrophobic hydrophilic interactions between functional groups lignin unit ionic surfactants. run 180 °C assisted best scenario highest reducing 4.034%.

Conversion of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch to Biofuels
Crude palm oil production is reaching 48.99 million metric tonnes per year globally in 2011 and Southeast Asia is the main contributor, with Indonesia accounting for 48.79%, Malaysia 36.75%, and Thailand 2.96% (Palm Oil Refiners Association of Malaysia, 2011). Oil palm is a multi-purpose plantation and it is also an intensive producer of biomass. Accompanying the production of one kg of palm oi...
متن کاملFactors Affecting Delignification of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch by Microwave-assisted Dilute Acid/Alkali Pretreatment
Microwave-assisted dilute acid/alkali pretreatment is an efficient and rapid method of removing lignin and hemicellulose, however, the optimized parameters for the maximum efficiency have to date not been presented in the literature. The purpose of this study was to determine those conditions by examining the effects of three factors: microwave power, temperature, and time on delignification in...
متن کاملStructural changes of oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) after fungal and phosphoric acid pretreatment.
Oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) was pretreated using white-rot fungus Pleurotus floridanus, phosphoric acid or their combination, and the results were evaluated based on the biomass components, and its structural and morphological changes. The carbohydrate losses after fungal, phosphoric acid, and fungal followed by phosphoric acid pretreatments were 7.89%, 35.65%, and 33.77%, respectively. ...
متن کاملProduction and purification of xylooligosaccharides from oil palm empty fruit bunch fibre by a non-isothermal process.
Oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) fibre, a by-product generated from non-woody, tropical perennial oil palm crop was evaluated for xylooligosaccharides (XOS) production. Samples of OPEFB fibre were subjected to non-isothermal autohydrolysis treatment using a temperature range from 150 to 220 °C. The highest XOS concentration, 17.6g/L which relayed from solubilisation of 63 g/100 g xylan was ...
متن کاملEffect of Silica Bodies on the Mechanical Behaviour of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Fibres
The surface of oil palm empty fruit bunch fibres contains embedded silica bodies or protrusions. The mechanical contribution of the protrusions towards the integrity of the fibres is still not clearly investigated. In this work, 2D and 3D finite element simulations on the surface and cross section of the fibres, respectively, were performed. The information for the models was obtained from scan...
